I am not a legal purist but I must admit that I am slightly disturbed when those in the media, politicians and even lawyers confuse what courts do when they rule the way they do. The "law" is a fascinating and interesting study and sometimes some people are so obsessed with results that they care little as to how the results are reached. Law is not politics - a smart individual should not find a legal answer to a problem based on personal beliefs, but on what the law dictates. For example, while I am personally opposed to the death penalty, I do believe that the practice is constitutional.
I have also learned that many individuals are interest in legal and constitutional issues and really want to learn more about them. Therefore, I wanted to create a website where individuals who did not go to law school can understand and discuss legal issues. That is the point of this web page. I will post on cases that affect the ordinary lay person and what these rulings actually mean. I will also post on interesting criminal and civil cases going on out there and try to explain what I think is going on. At the same time, I encourage others to give their opinions and thoughts on issues, even (especially) if you do not agree with me. (I have also created a place to explain and to discuss some of the more historic decisions by the Supreme Court).
Hopefully, this experiment will work and any discussion will be on a higher plane with degenerating to name calling and the like.
