Anchorage, Alaska - A man is charged with travelling interstate in order to have sex with a 6 year old child after the man flew from Boston to Alaska to arrange a meeting with the father of the child. It turned out to be an undercover sting. [Read here]
Oliver Springs, Tennessee - Some people should just not exercise their Second Amendment rights. A man shoots himself in the face while cleaning his gun. The man claims to have had one drink but that he was not impaired. Well, not from alcohol. [Read here]
Richmond, Virginia - A teacher/coach in the local high school is accused of indecent liberties with two female students. Part of the activities including the girls sending naked pics via text to the coach. [Read here]
Washington, DC - The FBI reports that hate crimes based on religion and sexual orientation are up. At the same time, hate crimes based on race are slightly down. [Read here]
Nashville, Tennessee - A judge struck down a law that allowed individuals to bring registered handguns into restaurants and bars because it was too vague. I believe people have the right to carry guns, but must they bring them into restaurants and bars? At least bar and restaurant owners can refuse to admit such people in their establishments. Washington, DC - An interesting article on the difficulties in monitoring the activities of registered sex offenders. There are more offenders to track, less money to do so, and a proliferation of electronic devices that give offenders access to pornography and children. [Read here]
Albany, New York - Even though the high court in New York agreed that charging those who call from the prison more than other calls is bad policy, it is not a constitutional violation. Those who paid extra for the charges will not be refunded. [Read here]
Bridgeville, Pennsylvania - A man kicked his girlfriend's pitbull puppy to death before a Pittsburgh Steelers game because he believed that the animal would not behave. Just plain sick. And, for the record, the Steelers lost (and to one of the worst teams in the league) - bad karma. [Read here]
Eagan, Minnesota - I guess squaring off on "Judge Judy" was not enough for two women who took their dispute from the television show to a bar room fight. "Judge Judy" gets great ratings and all, but having litigants duke it out could be ratings gold also. [Read here]
