Daily Docket - December 9, 2009

Trenton, New Jersey - Eight former New Jersey Attorneys Generals testified that the state should repeal mandatory sentence laws for non-violent drug offenders.  [Read here]

Marion County, Indiana - A class action lawsuit was filed that claimed that a traffic court judge who assessed additional fines to those who challenged their tickets is unconstitutional.  I like it - the threat of additional fines would discourage people from contesting tickets.  [Read here]

Suitland, Maryland - Disturbing.  A woman held a pregnant woman captive for five days because she wanted her baby.  No longer able to wait for the woman to give birth, she cut into the abdomen and took the baby herself.  Fortunately, the mother and child are recovering.  [Read here]

Lucasville, Ohio - For the first time, an individual was executed with only one drug.  Those in favor of the death penalty claim the single drug is quicker and less painful than the three drug cocktail normally used.  [Read here]

Washington, DC - An independent and internal probe by ACORN found that no illegal activity occurred from those "undercover" tapes featuring a pimp and prostitute.  [Read here]

Contra Costa County, California - A resentful brother who was clutching a Monopoly "Get out of jail free" card was sentenced to death for the killing of his sister and her brother.  [Read here]
